They are fully trained strong, professional warriors armed with a shield and a battle-axe. They could join together with their shields to form a shield wall.
What is a Fyrd?
The Fyrd were not full time fighters however they were called up when the King needed them. They weren’t peasants but trained men chosen because they could help in the war.
