The Normal Heart Flashcards
What does laminar mean?
Steamlined flow.
When blood flows in parallel layers with no disruption between the layers.
What does an inotrope do?
Alters the force of contractions
What does a chronotrope do?
Alters the heart rate
What does a dromotrope do?
Alters conduction speed
What is filtration?
The net movement of fluid from capillaries into the interstitial spaces
What is absorption?
The net movement of fluid from interstitial spaces into the capillaries.
What is hydrostatic pressure?
The pressure that pushes fluid from fluid from the capillaries into the interstitial spaces (ie Filtration).
What is colloidal osmotic pressure?
Osmotic pressure from plasma proteins pulling fluid from interstitial spaces into the capillaries (ie Absorption).
