The Nervous System Flashcards
(32 cards)
The nervous system is assisted by five sense organs
Eyes ears nose tongue and skin
Is any factor in the environment that may trigger a nerve impulse
Stimulus
Is received by the body and the response is made
Stimulus
A reaction to a stimulus
Response
Is the ability or tendency of an organism to maintain internal equilibrium by regulating its process
Homeostasis
kalma sa
kaya rana
Coordinates all activities of the body
Enables the body to respond and adapt to changes both inside and out
Nervous system
What are the two parts of nervous system
Central nervous system and peripheral nervous system
Central nervous system is made up of two major structures
Brain and spinal cord
brain six made section
Cerebrum
cerebellum
deinciphalon
midbrain
pons
medulla oblongata
Cerebrum four lobes
Frontal
parietal
temporal
occipital
LOBES
reasoning and thought
frontal
LOBES
integrates sensory information
PARIETAL
LOBES
auditor information from the ears
Temporal
LOBES
visual information from the eyes
Occipital
Isolates below the cerebrum and above of the neck
- muscle coordination
- posture
- muscle tone
Cerebellum
Is found between cerebrum and mid brain
Diencephalon
2 parts of diencephalon
thalamus
hypothalamus
PART OF DIENCEPHALON
Directs sensory impulses to the cerebrum
Thalamus
PART OF DEINCIPHALON
-controls and regulates temperature, appetite
-anger, fear, pleasure, pain, affection
Hypothalamus
is located below cerebrum
-responsible for eye and auditory reflexes
midbrain
is located below midbrain (in brainstem)
-responsible for certain reflex actions
-chewing, tasting, saliva
Pons
Is located at the bottom of the brain stem
- connects to the spinal cord
-heart and blood vessel function digestion, respiration, swallowing, coughing, sneezing, blood pressure
Medulla oblongata
also known as the center of respiration
Medulla Oblongata
