How the physical needs are met
Making the service user healthy meals that they enjoy and which will keep them physically healthy, and encouraging them to eat.
Encourage the service user to wash and clean, shower regularly, wash their clothes; help them if required.
Encourage the service user to walk each day to keep them physically healthy and mobile.
How the intellectual needs are met
Encourage the service user to watch the news or documentaries or programme that they enjoy so they can talk about them together, so keeping their mind active.
Buy the service user newspapers and magazines to encourage them to keep their mind active, e.g. keeping up to date with the news or completing crosswords.
Talk to the service user about attending activities which encourage their intellectual development, e.g. to participate in hobbies.
How the emotional needs are met
Telling the service user how much they are valued and still loved by their family.
Having regular family gatherings, e.g. meals to ensure the service user knows they are loved and keeping them feeling positive.
Reminding the service user that the service provider is keen to listen to them and encouraging them to talk about their worries and concerns.
How the social needs are met
Take the service user on outings so they can meet people, keeping up contacts, and feel part of the local community.
Encourage the service user to join local clubs or societies such as the local support group for people with dementia so they can meet people in a similar situation.
Organise for friends and family to visit the home so encouraging the service user to socialise.
