Why did Hitler and Stalin want Poland?
The country had only been created at the end of WW1 and was made up of territory taken mainly from Germany and Russia.
Why wouldn’t people have expected Stalin to make a deal with Hitler?
Russia was Communist, Germany was Fascist. Also, Hitler had often spoke about how Russians were inferior and that he wanted to destroy Communism.
Why didn’t Stalin make a deal with France and Britain instead?
He thought that they were weak thanks to what had happened in Manchuria, Abyssinia and the Rhineland. Also, Britain and France had signed the Munich Agreement with Hitler in 1938 which left out Russia.
What’s the difference between ‘Russia,’ ‘Soviet Union’ and ‘USSR?’
Nothing, they are all referring to the same country.
What was the military value of the Nazi-Soviet Pact for Hitler?
It would make sure that Germany did not have to fight a war on two fronts (eastern and western).
How did the Nazi-Soviet Pact help to start WW2?
It encouraged Hitler with his invasion plans plus it made Britain and France decide that war was inevitable so they made a promise to Poland that they would declare war if Hitler attacked it.
