The Nature of Science Flashcards
Bias
A systematic deviation between observations or interpretations of data and an accurate description of a phenomenon.
Constant
A number that is fixed and known.
Control
One in which the subject or a group would not be tested for the dependable variable.
Density
Mass of a unit volume of a material substance.
Dependent Variable
Something that depends on other factors.
Experiment
A scientific test in which you perform series of actions and carefully observe their effects in order to learn.
Graph
A line or tracing denoting varying values of commodities, temperatures, urinary, output, etc.
Hypothesis
An idea that proposes a tentative explanation about a phenomenon or a narrow set of phenomena observed in the natural world.
Independent Variable
It is a variable that stands alone and isn’t changed by other variables you are trying to measure.
Mass
Quantitative measure of inertia, fundamental property of all matter.
Model
A physical and/or mathematical and/or conceptual representation of system of ideas, events or processes.
Scientific Law
Observed phenomenon.
Scientific Method
A method of discovering knowledge about the natural world.
Standard
An object or experiment that defines the unit of a physical quantity.
Technology
Science or knowledge put into practical use to solve problems or invent useful tools
Scientific Theory
A method of discovering knowledge about the natural world based on making falsifiable predictions
Variable
Any factor, trait, or condition that can exist in different amount or types.
Volume
Amount of space the object takes up.
SI
SI is the system of units that is the modern form of the metric system, its also a scientific method of expressing the magnitudes of quantities
