a mere assumption or guess.
Independent Variable
In an experiment a variable that is intentionally changed to observe its effect on the dependent variable.

Model
A systematic description of an object or phenomenon that shares important characteristics with the object or phenomenon.
Scientific law
A statement that describes invariable relationships among phenomena under a specified set of conditions.
Scientific method
a method of research in which a problem is identified, relevant data are gathered, a hypothesis is formulated from these data, and the hypothesis is empirically tested.
Standard
an average or normal requirement, quality, quantity, level, grade.
Technology
The use of scientific knowledge to solve practical problems, especially in industry and commerce.
