THE NATURE-NURTURE DEBATE Flashcards
Nature
the idea that behavior is a consequence of hereditory
Nurture
The idea that a behavior is the consequence of the environment
Interactionist approach
It considers behavior to be influenced by both nature and nurture

Research suggests tht the nature nurture debate has become a meaningless distinction and there is a gorwing body of researhc which highlights the imporatnce of the interactionist approach
Research examining neural pplasticity in the topic biopsychology siggests that life experiences shape ouir biology. For example, maguire et al 2000 investigated the hippocampi volume of london taxi drivers brains, she found that this region of the brain was larger in taxi drivers in comparison to non taxi drivers
Maguire concluded that driving a taxi actually had an effect on the size of the hippocampi demonstarating evidence that nature can affect nurture
