what is a motif?
a theme repeated more than once in a story. everytime the theme is repeated, more information is given.
what is situational irony?
the irony of something happening that is very different to what was expected.
what is juxtapositon?
placing two or more things side by side to see/better highlight their contrasts and similarities.
what is the plot of a story?
the deliberate arrangement of the characters and incidents in a play in order to bring out a desired end.
it is a tool that the writer uses to shape his/her story.
what are narrative techniques?
what a writer uses to get her point/message/theme across.
what is linear storytelling?
a sequencial order of events
what is non-linear storytelling?
a non-sequential/chronological order of events
What is the human condition?
Any thematic concern that a writer embraces, which relates to everything that has to do with life.

what is musing?
where the writer gives a tour of the protagonist’s thoughts and emotions during a critical moment.

what is a flashforward?
where the writer allows the protagonist/antagonist to picture a future scenario for a particular reason.
what is a flashback?
fills the reader in with backstory of the character(s)
what does “the use of hidden language” mean?
when the writer allows the character to think about their crisis internally.

what is first person POV?
when the character tells/narrates the story
what is second person POV?
when the writer turns the reader into a character- the reader is being addressed by the writer.
what is third person POV?
when the narrator exists outside of the events and refers to the characters using third-person pronouns (he, she, they)
what is prose fiction?
the study of novels (imitation of real life experiences)- mimatic
