It began with the invasion of the Ruhr in January, which led passive resistance and, ultimately, hyperinflation. This was seized on by Adolf Hitler, who tried to overthrow the government

Gustav von Kahr, Prime Minister (essentially dictator) of Bavaria

Yes - they had planned the putsch together, although Kahr would later back out of the plan

They would take over Munich - and then they would march on Berlin
Who was Hitler partly inspired by?
Benito Mussolini, the fascist leader of Italy, who had marched on Rome in 1922 and seized power.

Why did the putsch fail?
Kahr and Lossow, another politician, alerted the police and the army. When Hitler tried to march through Munich, he was greeted with armed troops.
