what is the supporting evidence of the MSM? (brain scanning)
Studies using brain scanning techniques showed a difference between LTM and STM. Beardsley found the STM was activated in the prefrontal cortex and the LTM was activated in the hippocampus.
what are the case studies that support the MSM?
HM suffered brain damage from a motorbike accident which required the removal of his entire hippocampus. HM’s personality and intellect remains the same but he could no longer form new LTM, but he could remember things prior to the accident.
what is a weakness of the MSM?
The MSM is too simple. Other research shows there are three stores in the working model of the STM and that there are a number of different kinds of LTM. This suggests the MSM is simplified.
