The UK is a constitutional Monarchy, what is the position of the Monarchy?
The Monarchy is the head of the state
1) What’s the Queens position and rights
2) who holds the real power?
1) Queen has right to govern but in reality has little power, she has notional power
Queen reigns but doesn’t rule, can advise/warn PM
2) Real power lies with “her majesties government” - PM, cabinet and legislature

Gives Royal Assent to bills passed
Writes Queens Speech - outlining bills passed in parliament
Declares War
Creating knighthood and other honours
Appointing senior C of E clergy, judges, chiefly constables and diplomats

Sovereign Grant - Replaced Civil list and grant-in-aid in 2011, funded by taxpayer £85.7m in 2020/21
Privy Purse - personal pot of money derived from Duchy of Lancaster estates
