The Mixer and Stereo Image Flashcards
Where can you find the Pre/Post fader selection fo the Return channels (Ableton) ?
In Session View on the master channel strip
What are the three ways you can receive a bus signal in Live?
Return Input (set automatically) Channel Input (via a return) Plug-in sidechain input (via a return)
What does VU stand for and what is the typical scale ?
VU = Volume Units, and is usually a scale from -20 to +3 milliwatts
Describe the ‘Pan Law’ and how it is applied in Abelton (/most DAWs)
The Pan law states that if waveforms are played through both speakers simultaneously the amplitude will increase by 3dbs as they are summed together - most DAWs therefore actually conpensate for this so that stereo tracks panned centre will be reduced in volume by 3db.
What are the three ways in which we percieve stereo image from the audio on a stero track ?
The perception of a stereo image is caused by differences in volume, frequency content and small differences in timing (phase) between the left and right speakers
