What is the purpose of a parish newsletter?
To provide information about Mass times, confession times, charity events (and other activities organised by the parish to encourage parishioners to get involved).
Richard Challoner has links with St Matthias parish. Why is this important? How do we serve the parish, and how does the parish serve us?
Mutual support (work together as ‘the Church’)- the parish priest can say Mass here/ hear confession at school; we can support parish events e.g. raising money for Lenten project.
What does ‘clergy’ mean?
religious’ people who serve the Church e.g. monks, nuns, priests.
What does ‘Laity’ mean?
the congregation- (people who are part of ‘the Church’, but
not monks, nuns and priests).
Where could a chaplain also work other than work for a parish ?
School , hospital , army , prison
What characteristics would make a good chaplain?

How can Women serve the Church?
- Join the Catholic Union of Mothers
- Join other groups e.g. St Vincent De Paul Society
- Serve the parish in other capacities- in the choir, Parish council, readers etc.
What is The Catholic Union of Mothers?
a lay organisation in the Catholic Church, which is specifically for women and recognises the important role they play as mothers and within the family unit.
What is the Saint Vincent de Paul society?
is another lay organisation, but is open to both men and women. This organisation helps the poor and vulnerable.
‘The Pope does not play the most important role in the Catholic Church’
For: many people may argue that Jesus plays the most important role in the Catholic Church
-also maybe the community
Against: The pope is the leader of the Catholic Church and is the Bishop of Rome.
