The Mission Of Jesus Flashcards
Where was Jesus baptized?
The Jordan River, Judea
Jesus did not baptize John!
What happened when John baptized Jesus?
John is amazed at what just happened. The heavens opened up and a dove(epiphany-manifestation of God) came Dow and hovered above his head and a voice said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
Why did Jesus go to John for baptism?
It was a sign that he accepted his mission as the Messiah. It also symbolized that he was ready to die for us.
What is an epiphany?
A revelation or manifestation of God. The Father’s voice, the Holy Spirit like a dove descending upon Jesus, and Jesus the Son are a revelation of the Trinity.
What happened after Jesus’s baptism?
He was led into the desert by the Holy Spirit. Alone, he prayed and fasted for 40 days to prepare for his mission. When he was tempted by the devil, he was faithful to his Father, and he proved that he was the true a Messiah whose kingdom was spiritual and based on faith and love.
What were the Temptations?
Physical pleasure, pride, power. The three areas Jesus encountered, so too are we tempted.
What tempts us to sin?
Satan, the world around us, and our own weak nature.
What is sin?
Sin is choosing to do what is wrong, or to omit what is good.
Venial sins
They weaken our relationship with God.
Mortal(deadly)sins
They completely break our relationship with God.
