What are the three names for the time 500 ad to 1500 ad
Middle, ages dark ages and medieval times
Why are those times called the middle ages
Because they are between the roman times and modern day
Name the four parts of the feudal system
The king, the barons and bishops, the knights and the peasants
Where did the knights live
In manors (villages with land around them)
Whats a fief
The ceremony of the king handing over land to the bishops so they could control it for the king
What is a demesne
Land, knights kept for their own private use
Who were the bishops and barons
Usually they were relatives of the king and were the people who ran the land for the king
Where do we see evidence of the middle ages today
In castles and monasteries that are mostly ruins
What is a tithe
Its a tax paid of 10% of a peasants crops to the church for living on the land
Who were freemen
Pesants who were not owned by Nobels and could move freely to do work
What does a catapult do
It throws rocks and dead animals
Name two types of castles
Stone castles and motte and baily castles
Name three things used to attack a castle
A scaling ladder, a siege tower and a battering ram

A moat, a murder hole and a turret
What did they throw down a murder hole
Boiling oil, boiling water, rocks ect

When they dug under a wall to try and get it to fall down

It was a gate house before the bridge to a castle

They were men that shot arrows and flaming arrows at a castle

It was a man made hill
