Who were the Maya ?
They were the first Advanced American civilization
What were the two periods of this civilization?
The first period was ‘the Classic Period’ and the second period was called ‘the Post Classic’
How long did ‘the Classic Period’ last and how did it start ?
This lasted from 250-900 A.D and started in the forest region of Central America known as El Peteń.
How long did ‘the post Classic’ last ?
This started in the 10 century and lasted until 1450 .
Which of the two periods was better and why ?
‘the Classic Period’ was better as ‘the Post Classic’ suffered from wars between city-states which made farming difficult
Where did the Maya live ?
They lived in the Mexican states of Yucatan,Campeche and Tabasco as well as Belize ,Guatemala and the western edge of Honduras
What was the civilization was developed on ?
It was developed on corn (maize).
What advanced farming levels of crops did the Maya produce?
They produced potatoes (the white and sweet varieties) , avocados,tomatoes,pumpkin,beans,tabaco as well as coconuts and sugar cane
What does agricultural surplus mean ?
It means that the met produced more crops than needed .
