Also known as Laura’s Poem, she wrote it for for husband Eddie Beddoes. He was injured while serving and suffered from depression and PTSD.
Q - Their love before the war
‘after passionate nights and intimate days,’
Q - Delicate Physical Injuries
‘the damaged, porcelain collar-bone,’
‘the parachute silk of his punctured lung.’
Q - Pregnancy -> The experiences are an inescapable his life forever.
‘could I picture the scan,’
‘the foetus of metal beneath his chest’
Q - Tension and stress from horrors of war
‘sweating, exploding mine buried deep in his mind’
Q - Last line, hope
‘Then, and only then, did I come close.’

- Couplet long stanzas
- Lines of varying lengths
- Disjointed
Structure:
- New injuries each stanza
- > gradually moving further into the body and mind of the soldier.
