How did glaciation encourage hominization?

A

Glaciation created the grassland environment (flat, dry, little rainfall due to frozen state of moisture) that ancestral apes would adapt to, causing self reinforcing changes in behavior (group cooperation, infant care, home base, hunting, etc)
