The Lumbosacral Plexus Flashcards
posterior division of the internal iliac artery?
gluteal muscles/region, the lower back, and nearby sacral nerves and surrounding meninges
anterior division of the internal iliac. artery?
pelvic viscera, structures in the perineum (i.e., external genitalia), and the gluteal region
- branches of the posterior internal iliac region?
Iliolumbar
Lateral sacral
Superior gluteal
Branches of anterior internal iliac region?
obuturator, inferior gluteal, internal pudendal
Ilioinguinal nerve of the LP?
a branch of the L1 ventral ramus that courses through inguinal canal– sensation in scrotum and/or labia majora
Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve
ventral rami of L2 & L3- (courses beneath the inguinal ligament) supplies sensation to anterolateral thigh
Genitofemoral nerve, L1 and L2, give rise to two major branches:
Genital Branch- traverses the inguinal canal and innervates the scrotum/labia majora
Femoral Branch- supplies sensation to a small area on the proximal/anterior thigh
Two major nerves arise from the ventral rami of L2, L3 & L4 of the lumbar plexus. What are they?
Femoral Nerve- beneath the inguinal ligament and innervates the anterior thigh muscles
Obturator Nerve- passes through the “obturator canal” and innervates the medial thigh muscles
Sacral Plexus formed by what?
L4, L5 & S1- S4
Lumbosacral Trunk of sacral plexus?
of L4 & the L5 ventral ramus unite to form the large lumbosacral trunk
Sciatic Nerve of lumbosacral trunk?
L4, L5 and S1, S2, & S3 which exits “greater sciatic foramen” and innervates many muscles throughout the lower limb
What are the other nerves of the sacral plexus?
superior gluteal nerve
inferior gluteal nerve
posterior femoral cutaneous nerve
pudendal nerve
Nerve to the Obturator Internus and the Nerve to Quadratus Femoris
Sequence of Brachial Plexus vasculature?
