The Life Of Christ Notes Flashcards
The period of preparation
begin with Jesus’s preparation for
ministry, describing his birth, ancestry, identity, baptism, temptation, and the ministry
of John the Baptist as the forerunner to the Messiah. Not all these elements are
present in all the gospels, but each gospel includes some of them.
The period of popularity (public ministry)
Jesus’s early ministry was a period of
popularity. He travelled around preaching, healing, and casting out demons. Both his
teaching and his miracles provoked a great deal of interest in his ministry
The period of persecution (private ministry)
The Jewish religious leaders were jealous
of Jesus’s popularity among the masses, so they began plotting to turn the crowds
against him and to kill him. As time passed, the opposition became increasingly
stronger. Jesus withdrew more and more from public ministry and devoted himself to
private ministry to his disciples, preparing them for their ministry after his death and
resurrection.
The period of passion
The final major stage of Jesus’s life begins with his arrest and
includes his trial, crucifixion, resurrection, and appearances to his disciples.
