the last book in the universe Flashcards
quote: “if you are reading this, it must be a thousand years from now. because nobody around here reads anymore.” (7)
spaz is talking to the readers. this tells us that in spaz’s world they don’t read. this also tells us that it is many years after spaz wrote this since we are reading it right now. this quote is also communicating change.
“the sky is gray, everybody knows that. in the urb because of all the smog. in eden the sky is blue and the ground is green.” (155)
spaz is talking to lanaya. this quote shows the contrast between the two communities- the urb and eden. this helps us understand spaz’s and lanaya’s personalities. spaz says this when they are driving into eden with bean
“ryter was this gummy that changed my life, and if you’re reading this maybe he changed the world too.”9
spaz is saying this to the reader, he says it at the beginning of the book. ryter became the scapegoat. now spaz wants to read and wants to do intellectual things- contrast from the beginning of the book.
