What does the LDS cover?
The LDS consists of four data sets covering the age structure of the population in England and Wale and the method of travel to work from the censuses of 2001 and 2011
How many districts does the LDS come from?

What are disctricts often refered to as in the LDS?
Local authority districts (LADS) or Unitary Authorities (UA)
How and why were the unitary authorities created?
The unitary authorities were created by combining some LADs due to change over the 10 years between 2001 and 2011

What does the method of travel data cover?
The method of travel data sets encompasses all people who were in employment at the time of the census collection.
Where is the age structure of the data set taken from?
The date of birth question in the census
How is the age taken?
The age is taken to be the persons age on their last birthday before the time of the census collection
How old is someone who is less than a year old?
Recorded as 0
What age data entry was invalid in the 2001 census?
A data entry over 110 was treated as invalid
What age data entry was invalid in the 2011 census?
A data entry over 115 was treated as invalid
How should you present data with the LDS
Histograms and calculate frequency densities
Why would normal frequency diagrams or population pyramids be misleading with the LDS?
Because the class widths are different sizes for the ages. The class widths for teenagers are particularly small whilst those for ages 30-59 are much greater.
What do non-metroplitan districts in england refer to?
Towns or small cities
What do metropolitan boroughs refer to?
Big cities in certain areas of england
What does london borough refer to?
All parts of london
