Why did the Korean War affect the cold war and why was it seen as a proxy war?
It helped prompt a rapid and serious escalation of tensions between the United States and communist China and the USSR. Represented the first direct clash between communist and American forces. Signified the rapid deterioration in the relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union. Each superpower saw the other’s policy in Korea as imperialistic and a threat to their own ideology.
What caused the Korean War?
After World War Two, Korea had been divided at the 38th parallel into the Soviet-backed communist North Korea, led by Kim Il Sung, and non-communist, American-backed South Korea under the leadership of Syngman Rhee
