What are inferior judges
Judges who sit in crown, county and magistrates courts and tribunals
Circuit judge
Crown court, hear criminal trials and decide law and sentence
Recorders
Crown court, part time judges usually still practicing solicitors or barristers, hear criminal trials and decide law and sentence
District judge
Magistrates court, try criminal cases and sit alone, decide facts and law, sentence if guilty
What are superior judges
Judges who sit in the Supreme Court, court of appeal and high court
Justices of the Supreme Court
Most senior judges in the UK, sit in Supreme Court and privy council, hear points of law of great importance, any decision they make becomes precedent, sit as an uneven panel usually 5
Lord chief justice
Role created by constitutional reform act 2005, currently LORD BURNETT, president of court of appeal, high, crown, county and magistrates court so can hear cases in any, represents the judiciary to parliament and gov ministers, responsible for training and welfare of judiciary
Lord justices of appeal
Court of appeal, hear appeals as a panel of 3, 1800 criminal appeals, decisions on point of law become precedent
High court judges
High and crown court, in KBD and hear criminal appeals from magistrates as a panel of 2, hear criminal trials in crown court and decide on law and sentence
