What is the role of judges in a criminal case?
-Magistrates Court: District judges -hear summary and either way cases -hear evidence, decide verdict and pass sentence
-Crown Court: recorders and circuit -some either way and all indictable -advise jury on the law and pass sentence
-High Court: High Court Judges -hear stated appeals from Mags
-Court of Appeal: Lord/Lady judges of appeal -hear criminal appeals
-Supreme Court: Justices of the Supreme Court -hear criminal appeals from all lower courts -appeals concerjs a point of law
What are judge’s roles in civil cases?
-County Court: Dictrict, Recorders and Circuits -decide liability and appropriate remedy
-High Court: High Court Judges -listen to evidence, decide law and liability and hear appeals from County Court
-Court of Appeal: Lrd/Lady Justices of Appeals -hear civil appeals
-Supreme Court: Justices of the Supreme Court -hear appeals from all lower courts
