In the social exchange model, this is coined comparison of alternatives and is a judgement about whether an alternative partner (or no partner) would bring more rewards and fewer costs.
how does investment affect relationships?
The resources associated with a romantic relationship which the partners would lose if the relationship were to end.
what is meant by intrinsic investments?
Emotive investments, for example care and love that you have given and recieved.
what is meant by extrinsic investments?
Practical investments, such as dogs, houses and cars.
what does the investment theory suggest?
This theory suggests that the maintenance of a relationship is determined by commitment (the likelihood that the relationship will persist).
