Protocols
Set of rules or standards. In this case, these protocols let computers communicate over the Internet.
HTTP
(HyperText Transfer Protocol) allows transfer of Web pages using a browser.
FTP
(File Transfer Protocol) Allows the transfer of file through the Internet from one computer to another.
TCP/IP
(Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) Rules that computers use to communicate over the Internet.
Packets
Pieces of data divided up for transit. Packets contain information about the computer that sent the data and where the data is going.
IP Address
Internet Protocol (IP) address. A unique number assigned to every computer connected to the internet.
Network
two or more computers that are connected for the purpose of sharing resources.
LAN
Local Area Network A network of computers covering a small area.
WAN
Wide Area Network A network of computers covering a large geographical area.
HTML
HyperText Markup Language
WWW (World Wide Web)
CollecFon of interconnected documents, linked by hyperlinks and URLs.
