A

Communsit Lenin Vision

the idea that the USSR is home of every devote communist in the world

When Stalin took control the goal of the Comintern changed to be more about the protection of communism and the securirty of the USSR and not about the promotion of the proletariat

Ethiopia was a LoN member, they called for help but the West sayed that they were too busy to helop.
Big Mistake? Suez Canal would have made it easy for BR and FR to stop the Italian army from beign shipped to Ethipia, BR and FR also controled the other MedSea choke point of Gibraltar

14
Q

5-Year Plans

A

“We are 50-100 yrs behind the advanced countries. We must make good this distance in 10 years. Either we do it, or they crush us” Stalin

1928 was the first plan - industrialization carried out 5/1929-6/1941

Goal was to turn the agrarian USSR to a leading industrial power.
Industrialization,e conomic centralization, collectivization, and cultural revolution
Very successful but the Soviet people payed a huge price. Successful bc of natural resources, technology/factories from the west payed for in gold and diamonds, and their huge labor force (forced labor and relocation
In a 10 year period the USSR economy expanded to be stronger than IT and = FR

15
Q

Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact

A

1939 USSR and GR none aggression pact

done in secret

Agreed to the forced partiion of Poland (GR wanted west poland + lithuania) (USSR got latvia, estonia, bessarabia, and finalnd).
Stalin wanted this alliance bc he could sense that the west was about to betray him.
B4 the pact there was no direct border btw GR and USSR (buffer zone) -> GR invades USSR Poland in Sept 1939 which starts WWII
