What happened in Act 1:
Inspector Goole payed an unexpected visit to the Birlings when they were in the midsts of celebrating Sheila’s engagement to Gerald. He questioned them all under the topic regarding a woman named, Eva Smith’s suicide.
When the Inspector explains that Eva Smith had changed her name from Eva to Daisy Renton after getting sacked from Birling and company….
Gerald Croft had a shocked expression and Eric leaves the room quickly.
