The Inspector confronts Mr Birling arguing ‘Public Men, Mr Birling, have responsibilities as well as privileges’ through which he means:
People who are in influential positions need to look after those around them as well as take the perks of their position.
Sheila comments that the Inspector somehow makes the family confess like he knows everything already. She states he:
