What made the morale of soldiers low?
Casualties, frequent defeats and poor equipment and they soon lost respect for their officers.
What did many soldiers die without?
Weapons or ammunition and some did not even have boots to wear in the bitterly cold weather.
Economic effects of the war:
Inflation increased / higher food prices / lack of fuel and essential supplies / consumer goods became expensive / wages were not going up.
Social effects of the war:
Few men left to work on land / hard for peasants to cultivate land / misery for many Russians / workers had long hours / great poverty.
Political effects of the war:
Encouraged tsar to work with Duma / weakened position of tsar / Russian people hated Germans / rumours that Alexandra was spy / capable ministers were dismissed / support for the tsar decreases amongst classes.
Reasons for Russian defeats 1914-16:
Poor leadership of generals and officers / leadership of the tsar (from September 1915) / supplies and equipment / lack of infrastructure.
