What was the Holocaust?
It was the time period when Hitler became chancellor of Germany and the mass killing of a Jews.
What is the Aryan Race?
It was the master race of Nazi Germany characterized by blonde hair, blue eyes, tall stature, and strength.
What were the SS?
They were the German defense protective units responsible for carrying out the Holocaust.
Who was Heinrich Himmler?
He was the leader of the SS and led the Holocaust.
What is a ghetto?
It is a confined place in a city where Jews were sent to live and stay away from Germans.
What is an Extermination/Death Camp?
These were camps, all in Poland, where Jews were sent to be killed.
What is propaganda?
It was biased, misleading information used to convince people of something or a point of view.
What is Anti-Semitism?
It was the hatred of Jews.
What was Stage 1 of the Holocaust?
Stage 1: April 1, 1933 - It was the ‘Day of Boycott’. Jews were isolated economically and socially. Jews were kicked out of universities.
What were the Nuremberg Laws?
Stage 2: 1935 - Jews had to wear the ‘Star of David’. Jews couldn’t be employed by non-Jews or have non-Jewish employees.
What happened during Kristallnacht?
Stage 3: 1938 - Kristallnacht meant the “Night of Broken Glass”. Jewish churches were destroyed and they were expelled from schools. 30,000 Jews were arrested for protecting property.
What occurred in Stage 4 of the Holocaust?
Stage 4: 1939 - Jewish Ghettos rose as Jews were forced from homes to ghettos to stay away from Germans.
What happened during Stage 5?
Stage 5: 1942-1945 - Deportations began throughout Europe.
What was the death toll during Stage 6?
Stage 6: 1942-1945 - 6 million Jews were killed and 6 million non-Jews were killed. Gas was used to kill Jews in camps.
What happened in Stage 7?
Stage 7 - Liberation began and freed about 300,000 Jews from the camps.
