The Hip Joint, Gluteal Region and Thigh Flashcards
Where is the articulation between he ilium, ischium and pubis? when does it ossify?
Th articulation is centred at the acetabulum. In children, these 3 bones are incompletely ossified, at puberty, the bones are seperated by a Y shaped triradiate cartilage. Bones completely fuse together by 25 yrs of age
which ligaments provide stability to the hip joint?
anteriorly and superiorly by iliofemoral ligament to prevent hyperextension. It attaches to the anterio inferior iliac spine, margin of the acetabulum and the intertrochanteric line
anteriorly and inferiorly by the pubofemoral ligament to pevent overabduction. It is attached medially to the iliopubic eminence and superior pubic rami and laterally to the intertrochanteric line of the femur. Laterally it blends with he fibrous membrane and with the deep surface of the iliofemoral ligament
Posteriorly by the ischiofemoral ligament. It is attached medially to the ischium and laterally to the greater trochanter deep to the iliofemoral ligament
Superficial gluteal muscles
- Gluteus maximus
- Gluteus medius
- Gluteus minimus
