The Hip Flashcards
1
Q
Vasculature of the Hip
A
- Femoral artery branches from the external iliac artery and runs anteriorly on the hip
- Gives rise to profunda femoris (deep branch)
Profunda femoris gives rise to
- Medial circumflex artery
- Lateral circumflex artery
These supply the femoral head.
2
Q
Quadriceps muscles
A
Knee extension
- Vastus Medius
- Vastus Intermedius
- Vasus Lateralis
- Rectus femoris
3
Q
Hamstrings
A
Knee flexion and hip extension
- Semimembranosus
- Semitendinosus
- Biceps femoris
4
Q
Which muscles abduct and adduct the hip?
A
Abductors:
- Gluteus medius, medius and minimus
Adductors:
- Gracilis
- Sartorius
5
Q
Nerves in the hip
A
F.O.S.S.
Anterior: Femoral nerve
Medial: Obturator nerve
Posterior: Superior gluteal nerve
Lateral: Sciatic nerve
6
Q
Deformities of the hip on inspection
A
- Fixed flexion deformity: Thomas’s test
- External rotation
- Adduction: hip OA/shortened leg/protrusio acetabuli
- Abduction: NOF#/anterior dislocation of femoral head
