The heart revision Flashcards
what does the pulmonary circuit do ?
Brings deoxygenated blood back into the heart
What does the systematic circuit do?
Transports oxygenated blood from the heart throughout the body
what happens on the right side of the heart
- Deoxygenated blood enters right attium and it contracts
- Tricuspid valve opens into right ventricle
- Blood enters ventricle and tricuspid valve closes to prevent back flow
- Pulmonary valve opens and lets blood out the heart into pulmonary artery to the lungs, collects oxygen.
Aorta function
Main blood vessel which oxygenated blood passes through from the heart to the rest of the body
Sinoatrial node(SAN) function
The pacemaker of the heart- generates electrical signal that causes upper heart chambers( atria) to contract
Atrioventricular node(AVN) function
controls the passage of the heart’s electrical signal from the atria to the ventricles
Atrioventricular node(AVN) function
controls the passage of the heart’s electrical signal from the atria to the ventricles
Bundle of HIS function
part of the electrical impulses that travel through the heart. Divides into left and right which stimulate the left and right ventricles
Myogenic muscle function
Mucles ability to contract without nervous stimulation (they are involuntary
Aorta function
Takes oxygenated blood from the heart to the body
Vena cava function
brings deoxygenated blood from the body to the right atrium
right atrium function
Recieves deoxygenated blood from the vena cava
Tricuspid valve function
Prevents backflow from the right ventricle to right atrium
Right ventricle function
Contracts to pump blood into pulmonary artery
Semi lunar valve function
Prevents back-flow of blood from aorta to the ventricle
Pulmonary artery function
Take’s deoxygenated blood to lungs
Pulmonary veins function
Carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium
left atrium function
Recieves oxygenated blood from pulmonary veins
Bicuspid valve function
Prevents backflow from left ventricle to the left atrium
left ventricle
contracts to pump blood from the aorta
Path of blood
vena cava - right atrium- tricuspid valve- right ventricle- semi lunar valve- pulmonary arteries- lungs- pulmonary veins- left atrium- bicuspid valve- left ventricle- semi lunar valve- aorta- body organs
how does the heart receive nutrients and oxygen
through the coronary arteries- when they become blocked a heart attack is likely
Diastole meaning
Diastole is relaxed
atrial diastole meaning
When both atria relax and fill with blood
