The heart Flashcards
what is the cardiac muscle like in the heart
thicker on the left side because it has to contract greater to push blood further
what are atria
where blood enters the heart
what do atrias have less of
cardiac muscle since they only push into ventricles
what valves are within the heart
atrioventricular valves
semilunar valve
what are valves purpose
prevent backflow
what does the semilunar valve prevent
backflow into ventricles
what is located in the right atrium of the heart
the sinoatrial node
what does the sinoatrial node do
the cells within start contracting and the ones next to them follow etc
What happens with contractions with ventricles
tissue blocks it contracting normally but a electrical impulse tells the muscles at the bottom of the ventricle when to contract
