the heart Flashcards
1
Q
features of the atria
A
thin walls as not much pressure
receive blood from veins and push into ventricles
2
Q
features of the right ventricle
A
thick walls
no HP as don’t need to pump blood very far
3
Q
features of the left ventricle
A
2X- 3X thicker
blood pumped out of aorta and sufficient pressure to overcome systematic circulation
4
Q
Diastole
A
4 chambers relax
elastic recoil - increase in volume
allows blood to flow in from right vein
5
Q
atrial systole
A
right and left atria contract
thin walls - small amount of pressure
pushes blood into the ventricles
6
Q
ventricle systole
A
right/left ventricles pump
contraction at apex
blood pushed upwards towards arteries
