The Heart Flashcards
function
to transport substances from place to place in the body
3 layers of the heart
epicardium- thin connective tissue (outer)
myocardium- cardiac muscle (middle)
endocardium- thin inside layer (inner)
valves of the heart
tricuspid, pulmonary, mitral (bicuspid), and aortic semilunar
Pulmonary Circulation
Right side, to the lungs
Systemic Circulation
Left side, to the body
pathway of blood to the lungs
right atrium to the tricuspid valve to the right ventricle to the pulmonary semilunar valve to the pulmonary trunk to the left and right pulmonary artery to the lungs
Coronary artery
supplies blood to the heart muscle
Coronary vein
takes deoxygenated blood that has been used by cardiac muscles and returns it back to the right atrium
function of intercalated disks
to enable the heartbeat
where does the heartbeat originate
- SA nodes set the rate and rythm
2. AV nodes carry electrical signals from the heart upper chamber to the lower ones
