The Head and Neck Blood Circulation Flashcards
422
First artery in the arch of the aorta is the innominate artery. Next artery is the left common carotid rtey and the 3rd is the subclavian artery
423
Innominate artery subdivides into right common carotid and right subclavian artery. Each subclavian artery has an upward branch, the verterbral artery
425
Right and left common carotid arteries and left and right vertebral arteries extend upwards and supply blood to the head and neck
426
Right and common carotid arteries extend upward along the trachea until the reach the upper border of the thyroid cartilage where they divide in internal carotid arteries and external carotid arteries
431
External Carotid arteries supply blood to neck, face, mouth, mandible and scalp. Internal carotid arteries and external carotid arteries
432
External carotid artery has several branches, First superior thyroid artery which supplies blood to the thyroid gland
437
2nd principal branch off the external carotid is lingual artery
444
The next major branch of the external carotid is the external maxillary artery
451
Then, the next branch off is the occipital artery
459
After these branches, the external carotid subdivides in superficial temporal artery and the internal maxillary artery
460
Branch of the external carotid subdivides in superficial temporal artery
465
Branch of the external carotid that leads to deep structures of face is the internal maxillary artery
482
Blood flows into all these arteries then into arterioles, then into capillaries, into venules, and finally 2 large veins
489
Posterior facial vein amd posterior auricular vein combine to form external jugular vein
498
External jugular veins empty subclavian veins. Right external jugular veins empties in right subclavian vein and vice versa
