**Explain Gatsby as the American Dream?(full paragraph)

A

“The Great Gatsby,” by F. Scott Fitzgerald is said to be like the American Dream. The American Dream and its attainability is the overwhelming theme of “The Great Gatsby”. The book is set up in a post WWI environment which sets up the reader to see numerous disappointments in mankind. “The Great Gatsby” has 5 themes: decay, honesty, class, religion, and hope. Decay is the most prominent in “The Valley of Ashes” where everything seems barren. This theme is very close to the American Dream. Honesty in the world of Gatsby and what is honest, dishonest, right, and wrong is all related to class. Class is a huge part of “The Great Gatsby” and plays a major role. The old money is better than new money and can not be compared by status. The book and characters are obsessed with class and privilege. Religion has several references and the lack of morality is associated with the time period. Lastly is hope. Hope is used a lot in this book because every character represented in this novel has some sort of hope within them and some even lose their hope through out the book. All in all, “The Great Gatsby” is a lot like the American Dream and can be compared by a lot to the American Dream. You just have to dig down into to realize how similar it is.
