What was discussed in the Tehran conference?
A
- In November 1943, the Grand Alliance held a conference in Tehran. The talks focussed on plans to defeat the Nazis. But the allies also started to discuss what would happen to Europe and Germany after the war.

A
- The Grand Alliance made more decisions about the future of Europe at the Yalta Conference in February 1945.
- Free elections would be held in previously occupied countries in Eastern Europe. The “big three” plus France would divide Germany and Berlin between them. The United Nationas would replace the failed League of Nations.

What was agreed at the Potsdam Conference?
A
- After Germany surrendered in May 1945, the allied leaders met again at Potsdam over July and August. They wanted to work on the finer details of their plans for Germany and Europe.
- Some important agreements were made at Potsdam; The exact division of Germany and Berlin was determined. The new boundaries of Poland were agreed. Nazi leaders would be tried for war crimes at Nuremberg.

What did Stalin do that alarmed Britain and the US, as they felt it went against the Yalta agreement?
A
- Britain and the US were also alarmed by Stalin’s actions in Poland. He was installing a government only consisting of pro-communist members. Britain and the US felt this went against the Yalta agreement.
