Process of complaint to GDC

What can case examiners do
-no action
-send letter of advice (e.g.improve record keeping, improve communication)
-agree undertaking (need to go through defence union)
-issue a published or unpublished warning
- send forward to a practice committee
-if can’t agree refer to full investigating committee
What is the Interim Orders Committee
this is separate
runs parallel to the other process
Interim Order - conditions (e.g., not allowed to practice alone) or suspension may be imposed for up to 18 months
What are the 3 Practice Committees
professional conduct committee
professional performance committee
health committee
two stage test (questions) as to whether there is impaired fitness to practice
- do the proven facts amount to misconduct
- is the registrants fitness to practice currently impaired
