What is the purpose of the gastrointestinal system?
-Digestive system
-Responsible for intake, digestion, absorption of nutrients and waste removal
Three forms of nutrition

The purpose of digestion
Breakdown of large molecules into smaller sizes that can be absorbed across membranes
What is the GI tract structure?
-Open tube running from oral cavity to anus
-Oral cavity
-Esophagus
-Stomach
-Small intestine
-Large intestine
Four layers of the GI tract
-Mucosa: Contains Epithelium: Lamina Propria and Muscularis Mucosae
-Submucosa: Contains blood vessels, lymph, nerves, mucous producing glands
-Muscular: Lengthwise and circular pending location/varies between areas
-Serosa: Outer layer
Our four teeth!
-Incisors: Cutting, picking up objects, grooming
-Canines: Holding prey, tearing
-Premolars: Carrying, crushing into smaller pieces
-Molars: Grinding
