The Gas Laws Flashcards
When considering the behaviour of a gas, what are the 3 variables?
Pressure
Temperature
Volume
What is Boyles law?
The volume of a given has is inversely proportional to the ABSOLUTE pressure of the gas. PROVIDED that the TEMPERATURE remains constant.
What happens when you double the absolute pressure?
The volume is halved
What happens when you times the absolute pressure by 3?
It gives 1/3 the volume
What is Charles’ law?
The volume of a given mass of gas is directly proportional to the ABSOLUTE temperature providing that the PRESSURE remains constant
When a cylinder is initially filled with gas, the mass of gas which occupies the cylinder volume will depend on:
The particular gas
The pressure of the gas
The temperature of the gas
