The farmer becomes more possesive towards the end of the poem - he may connsumate the marriage

The marriage appears forced for the wife

The wife is compeltely cut off from the marriange - simile

Last stanza the structure changes through uses of commas to reflect the building tension

Context
Mew was part of a huge middle class family
Two of her siblings died from mental issues
