Which members are elected geographically and when would you be eligible for that office?
Regional director. Eligible for role after serving at least one term as a Basileus of a grad chapter and attending at least one of the last three regional conferences immediately preceding nomination, and residing in the Region.
What role is AKAs chief officer? Her responsibilities?
Supreme Basileus. Presides at all meetings of the Boule and Directorate. Appoints, with the approval of the directorate, the chairmen and members of all committees of the sorority, and fill any vacancies except as otherwise provided for in the Bylaws. Exercises general supervision over employed personnel and over the Boule.
What are regional conferences and when are they held?
Study sessions designed to clarify procedures and resolve problems of the chapters within a region through workshops, discussions, demonstrations, and other types of group activity. Meets annually.
What is the leadership seminar and when is it held?
Training session for officers and members which is held in alternate years when the Boule does not meet (odd years).
When can Bylaws be amended?
Only at Boule meetings by 2/3 votes cast, provided that the proposed amendments shall have been circulated to chapters no later than April 30th preceding the Boule.
How far in advance is the Supreme Basileus of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority elected? Wen does she take her title?
She is elected four years in advance and must serve as First Supreme Anti-Basileus following her election. She is then installed as Supreme Basileus
How does a Soror become a member of an International committee?
Appointment by the Supreme Basileus like all members outside of the regionally elected Nominating Committee.
Why was AKA founded?
Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded as an instrument to make college experience as meaningful and as valuable as possible in enhancing the capacity of college-trained women for significant self-realization
