Layers of the scalp (S→D)
A
- Skin
- Connective tissue
- Aponeurosis
- Loose connective tissue (subaponeurotic fascia)
- Periosteum

Describe the connective tissue of the scalp
A
- Fibrous, tightly bound to skin & aponeurosis
- Sliding of the scalp is due to the loose connective tissue
- Holds vessels open when cut → scalp wounds bleed profusely & require suturing

Discuss scalp wounds
A
- Bleed profusely, require suturing
- If penetrates the aponeurosis:
- Infection spread over surface of cranial vault in subaponeurotic space
- Transverse tears will gape (frontalis & occipitalis) so harder to suture
