Describe the connective tissue of the scalp

A
  • Fibrous, tightly bound to skin & aponeurosis
    • Sliding of the scalp is due to the loose connective tissue
  • Holds vessels open when cut → scalp wounds bleed profusely & require suturing

Discuss scalp wounds

A
  • Bleed profusely, require suturing
  • If penetrates the aponeurosis:
    • Infection spread over surface of cranial vault in subaponeurotic space
    • Transverse tears will gape (frontalis & occipitalis) so harder to suture
