The Eyeball Flashcards
Where is light focused in the eye?
Onto the retina(at the back of the eye)
What is the function of the retina?
The retina sends information to the brain
What cells are in an eyeball?
Rods
Cones
Rods
Used for detecting different shades of light
Cones
Used for detecting different colours
Examples of vision problems
Myopia (nearsightedness)
Hyperopia (farsightedness)
Astigmatism
Colour blindness
Myopia
Nearsightedness
It occurs when light is focused too early, well before the retina. Distant objects are blurred. Correct with a diverging lens.
Hyperopia
Farsightedness
Light is focused too late, well beyond the retina. People cannot see objects that are very close to the eye. Correct with a converging lens.
Astigmatism
The eyeball is not correctly shaped, so some planes of light are blurred
Colour blindness
The inability to distinguish between some colours. Several different types exist.
What type of lens is in an eyeball?
Converging
