The Eye (Vision and Perception) Flashcards
Iris
colored part of eye, constricts or opens the pupil
Ciliary Body
controls accommodation of the lens
What are the 4 components of forming an image?
Refraction, accommodation, constriction of pupil, convergence
Refraction
Bending of light frames
Convergence
“cross eye” if convergence is not possible, double vision will occur
Layers of Eyeball (3)
Fibrous Layer, Vascular Layer, Inner Layer
Fibrous Layer
Strong and tough, contains sclera and cornea
Vascular Layer
Contains choroid, ciliary body, and iris
Inner Layer
Contains retina, optic nerve, retinal blood vessels
What is the retina composed of? (4)
neural cells, main photoreceptor cells, bipolar cells, and ganglion cells
Rods
produces black/white vision and is used for vision in dim light
What are the three types of cones? (wave lengths)
blue, red, green
Cones
Create sharper image that rods
Ganglia
Receive impulses from the bipolar cells (rods and cones)
Optic Disk
convergence point of ganglia axons to form optic nerve
